Top tips for registering a domain name

By Ditlev

The domain name is an essential part of any web site and registering it can be a tricky business. The good people at Nominet have written a guide on how to pick the right domain name.

I thought I’d pass on their recommendations and paste their guide below:

Blades of Glory

By Keira

As part of the celebrations in the run up to Christmas, UK2 is always very nice to its employees.

Last night was no exception as members of the marketing and sales department, and our honorary marketeer/teaboy Paul, were treated to an evening of ice skating at the beautiful Somerset House. Since I helped to organise and plan the evening, it was suggested that I should write a blog about it today.

However, being one of the designers at UK2, and passionate about photography, means I am a bit more visually inclined so I have decided to forego the usual journalistic type account and just show you the evening in pictures. Here then, are all the thrills (who knew that so many people at UK2 were closet figure skaters?) , spills (and boy were there a lot of those!), laughs and tearjerking moments.

A Fantastic Night …

By Nicola

… even though we didn’t win an award.

Unfortunately we didn’t get the award we wanted at the PC Pro event last night, but it was an amazing evening and everyone at UK2 had a fab time.

We all met in Bar 190 in South Kensington, and I think you’ll agree we looked the part - kitted out in our best frocks and tuxedos!

By Nicola

Hi everyone,

Tonight 11 of us from UK2 are off to the PC Pro Awards 2007, to see whether we’ll reach the glorified heights of becoming “Best Web Host”.

We were really proud to be shortlisted, as we feel we’ve changed and improved as a company a heck of a lot over the past year.

At Long Last an Update on the latest Employee(s) of the Month at UK2

By Annalien

For all those following our EoM (Employee of the Month) awards, you might have noticed that we were on the quite side for the past couple of months. I can truly say that it has been a busy couple of months at UK2 and eventually we have decided on the Employee’s of the month for May, June and July. For some it may not be a surprise to see someone winning it for the first time or should I say for the “Second Time” round!

UK2 Employee of the Month Award - April 2007

By Annalien

Employee of the Month for April 2007 is awarded to:

esben-kvorning-eom-may-2007.JPG

Esben Kvorning, Graphic Designer

Esben joined UK2 in December 2006, and made a bigger jump than most of us by moving here from Denmark! When he joined, Esben was providing design support on UK2 but was mainly focussed on the other brands in the UK2 family such as Another.com, Supreme Support and Managed Box. However, in February 2007 Esben’s role changed and he became wholly responsible for the UK2 website. He had no qualms about this new responsibility, immediately rose to the challenge and got stuck in. He has since introduced a bright new look and feel, has made it easier for customers to use and navigate, and has fixed and updated many pages and parts of the website.

Esben is a very hard worker and is really committed to his job. He takes a lot of pride in his designs and coding, and is very knowledgeable, so provides well informed suggestions and recommendations for how to develop the UK2 website. Esben is now making changes and improvements on a daily basis, and in April he created a brand new, eye catching UK2 homepage.

Esben is an integral part of the Marketing Department and has a natural flair for working with the UK2 brand. His work to date has received excellent feedback from both UK2 customers and employees, but his work doesn’t just look good it has helped improve clickthroughs and sales. Esben often goes beyond the call of duty by putting in extra hours after work, and he has supported me in launching several marketing campaigns - which can be quite a stressful time! He also works extremely quickly to keep delivering task after task on a timely basis. All of this explains why Esben is the winner of this months Employee of the Month Award.

April 2007 - Employee of the Month

By Annalien

As promised back in March 2007 with our First Blog post on the Employee of the Month, I am happy to make this an ongoing event in keeping all our customers informed about our best performers in UK2.

Hannahmi van der Merwe Eom April 2007

Hannahmi van der Merwe, Billings Representative

Hannahmi has our been with UK2 since August 2006 and started out as the Billing and Office Administrator. Between August and November 2006 Hannahmi  did extremely well at UK2 and as a result she was promoted to the role of Billing Representative. Hannahmi was given the responsibility to ensure customers are dealt with in an efficient and professional manner, and she has to deal with all their problems with regards to payments and renewals etc.

I would say that Hannahmi’s best quality is the pride she has in her work. Hannahmi has a positive energy about her! She never complains about the amount of work she has or the problems she has to face. Whenever there is an issue she makes a point of addressing the problem, creating a strategy and ensuring the issue gets resolved as quickly as possible.

Hannahmi’s strong work ethic and her “Go Get Em” attitude are just a few of her many qualities. She is a real team player and is not afraid to speak her mind or share her thoughts. Hannahmi played an important role in helping to shape the current billing department into what it is today by putting extra energy and pride into her job. You often see Hannahmi  staying late after work, tackling tickets and ensuring she’s done her bit and that extra bit more. That is why Hannahmi is the winner of this months Employee of the Month Award.

UK2.net anno 1999

By Ditlev

And the story of “one million sold”…
The webdesign at UK2.net has really gone through a lot of changes during the last year – but god knows it was needed. The old “design” had not been changed a whole lot since UK2 started trading online back in 1999.
We even changed the logo. Now that was a funny process as well. When presenting the new logo to the board I brought a whole bunch of different options, I think we made the right choice though - don’t you agree?

Our logo was made by the Danish design studio Matter – they are good guys, and we are pleased with the result. It was a long process, and we went through many styles before finally going with the current one.

This is how we looked less than a year ago. (more…)
