Five Plugins to Syndicate Content in WordPress
Syndication is when a website’s contents are quickly or instantaneously replicated on other websites. This can be mutually beneficial for both sites by exposing the transmitting website to a wider audience and providing the receiving website with more regular content updates. In this way syndication offers a cheap and easy form of advertisement.
WordPress provides numerous plugins that allow you to syndicate content.
1. Syndicate Press. This plugin allows you to add feeds (RSS, RDF, or Atom) in your pages, posts, widgets, or anywhere in your WordPress theme. It has a user-friendly admin page and provides filters, feed caching and many display options. Syndicate Press displays feed items in your WordPress as if they are an actual part of your content since it does not force arbitrary formatting or CSS styling on feeds. This plugin is regularly updated to provide users with an easy-to-use, stable, and functional feature that keeps your site updated with the latest news feeds.
2. Push Syndication. Push Syndication was developed to help users manage posts in several sites. With just a click, you can push a post to different platforms, up to more than 100 sites. This plugin can be used to generate API tokens to push content in a WordPress blog. You must first register the sites and group them into sitegroups where content will be pushed. A Syndication metabox will appear in the post edit screen displaying all the sitegroups you have defined so you can select which content will be pushed in a sitegroup.
3. FeedWordPress. This plugin is an Atom/RSS aggregator which syndicates content from feeds that you selected into your WordPress. Syndicated content is displayed as a special post in your posts database. FeedWordPress is flexible, easy-to-use, and highly configurable. To be able to use it, you need a working installation of WordPress or WordPress MU (version 3.0 or later), and FTP or SFTP access to your webhost.
4. Syndicate Out. Syndicate Out is a plugin that syndicates all posts made in a category to any other WordPress blog. Blog owners can create automatic aggregating or categorise specific blogs from different blog sources without using RSS feeds. It uses the XML-RPC functionality which is available in WordPress to push content to target blogs. The receiving WordPress blog must enable its XML-PRC for this plugin to work. Note that XML-PRC is enabled by default in WordPress 3.5 and later.
5. CyberSyn. CyberSyn is a powerful, lightweight, and easy-to-use Atom/RSS syndicating plugin. It is extremely fast since it parses the RSS and Atom feeds for specific XML elements only. This plugin allows you to automatically extract and embed videos from YouTube RSS feeds, and stores syndicated images on the local host. It has no problem with syndicating various embedded media content.
Syndication simultaneously offers a solution to anyone who is looking to get their content more widely visible or bring in great new posts to drive traffic to their site. With these fantastic plugins, you can take your first step to developing a robust syndication strategy that will benefit your website.
